Juvenile Court Book Club
The Juvenile Court Book Club, a forum for juveniles in the court school system to read and talk about books with adult volunteers, is looking for attorney to be program volunteers. Volunteer attorneys will meet students once a month to discuss the book chosen for that month. In addition to encouraging literacy, the program fosters discussions of thought provoking issues based on each book. From time to time, local authors also attend Book Club sessions and talk about their writing. Developed by Hon. Maria Arroyo, Juvenile Court Referee (now retired), with support and encouragement from Hon. James Milliken, former Presiding Judge of the San Diego Juvenile Court, Book Club volunteers provide “hands-on” outreach and positive support to those in the court’s school system. For more information on the Book Club, including 2012 schedules for each site and lists of books read, visit www.juvenilecourtbookclub.com.
