There are several scholarships available to law students, and we have included summaries of them below:

Lawyers Club of San Diego Janeen Kerper Scholarship

This scholarship has been established to provide financial support to a student who is enrolled at California Western School of Law, demonstrates support of the mission of the Lawyers Club of San Diego and is academically among the top 50% of his or her law school class. The scholarship can only be used for tuition or books and is a $2000 award. Completed applications must be received by October 17, 2012, at noon in the Student Services office.

Janet D. Steiger Fellowship Project

The Janet D. Steiger Fellowship Project was initiated in 2004 by the ABA Section of Antitrust Law, in cooperation with the National Association of Attorneys General, as a consumer protection outreach initiative to introduce law students to the rewards of legal careers in public service. Applicants must currently be first or second year law students. Selected students will serve for a minimum of eight weeks during the summer of 2013 in the consumer protection or consumer affairs offices of locations of participating State and Territorial governments. Applications are due October 19, 2012.

Bonnie Reading Scholarship

The San Diego County Bar Association’s Certified Family Law Specialists Committee is offering a $2,500 grant to the year’s most outstanding family Law Student in San Diego County. The areas the Committee considers when selecting the recipient include (in no particular order): Academic achievement, financial need, dedication and efforts toward becoming a family law practitioner including the applicant’s work history, volunteerism, research and writing on a family law topic, and any other information deemed relevant by the applicant. Applications are due October 26, 2012.

PALSD/FALSD 2013 Scholarship for California Bar Exam

The Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego (PALSD) and Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego (FALSD) are offering scholarships to assist in covering the cost of the February 2013 or July 2013 California State Bar Exam for eligible individuals. Applicants must be able to attend the PALSD & FALSD Annual Dinner in January 2013 to receive the scholarship. Applications are due December 12, 2012.

Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship

Banner & Witcoff, LTD. is pleased to offer the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship for law students. This scholarship is part of Banner & Witcoff’s continuing commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers from diverse backgrounds. The scholarship is open to all students pursuing a career in intellectual property law. The applicant must be a member of a historically under represented group and must have exemplary writing and oral communication skills. Applications are due January 7, 2013.

Dorothy L. Weller P.E.O. Scholarship

California Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) is a philanthropic organization for women. Founded in 1869 as a small friendship society, P.E.O. quickly grew into a diverse, widespread sisterhood with one mission: promote educational and personal growth opportunities for women. The Dorothy L. Weller scholarship is awarded to female residents of California who are pursuing a law degree. Applicants must have excellent records in scholastic ability, school activities, character and integrity. Award amount and number of awards varies annually. Application deadline is February 1, 2013. AABA Law Foundation Scholarship

The Asian American Bar Association will award one scholarship of $5,000 and one scholarship of $2,500 to law students who have demonstrated a commitment to serving the needs of the Asian Pacific American community, and who will continue to serve the needs of the Asian Pacific American community through pro bono, public interest, and/or public service legal work. A connection to the Chicago area is preferred. Applications are due March 1, 2013.
