Panelists:

Leah Esturas-Pierson, Esq. (CWSL ‘11/Sr. Contracts Analyst, UCSD, Clinical Trials)  Ms. Esturas-Pierson is the Senior Contracts Analyst at UC San Diego, Office of Clinical Trial Administration where she negotiates contractual agreements with pharmaceutical companies and medical device companies that intend to sponsor clinical research at UCSD.  Her previous legal experience as a paralegal led to rewarding internships during law school at the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Heppner & Elwood, and the Office of Legislative Counsel in Sacramento.  She earned her BA in Communications from San Francisco State and her JD in 2011 from California Western.

 Erin Adkins, Esq. (CWSL ‘10/Asst Athletic Director of Compliance – USD Athletics)   Ms. Adkins is the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance for the University of San Diego Toreros. During her years of law school at California Western Ms. Adkins placed a high interest in Sports Law. Currently in her third year with the Toreros, she ensures that all student-athletes, coaches and administrators follow all Division 1 NCAA rules and legislation.  Prior to her work with USD, Ms. Adkins was a legal assistant for the professional baseball team the L.A. Angels of Anaheim and two local San Diego law firms, Foley & Lardner and Shoecraft & Burton.

 Leslie Geary, Esq. (CWSL ‘08/Contracts Specialist, U.S. Dept. of Navy, NAVAFAC SW)  Ms. Geary graduated from USC in 2004 and California Western School of Law in 2008.  After graduation and passing the bar, she worked as an associate at a small estate planning and business litigation firm.  In July 2010, she began working for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW) within the Department of the Navy as a Contract Specialist specializing in preparing and administering of facility engineering and construction contracts for the Southwest Area of Responsibility.

 Farzeen Essa, Esq. (CWSL ‘06/Contracts Analyst, Booz Allen Hamilton)  Ms. Essa provides Acquisition Support to various programs within the U.S. Department of Defense. Prior to joining the company, she was an associate on the labor and employment litigation team at Brown Law Group, and prior to that was an associate at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch, where she practiced business, construction, intellectual property, real estate, and employment litigation, and gained experience in corporate and general business planning and formation. Prior to Procopio, Ms. Essa practiced in class action securities, consumer fraud, antitrust and shareholder derivative litigation.

 Vida Navarro, Esq. (CWSL ‘06/Grant Writer, San Ysidro Health Center)  Ms. Navarro is a Grant Writer for San Ysidro Health Center, one of the largest non-profit community health centers in San Diego County.  Ms. Navarro graduated with a BA in Humanities from Pepperdine University in 2002 and earned her JD from California Western in 2006.  Prior to entering the grant writing field in 2009, Ms. Navarro interned with the Transportation Security Administration and San Diego Public Defender’s Office and was a contract attorney for Wertz McDade Wallace Moot & Brower.  She specializes in writing health-related grant proposals to federal, state, county, and city agencies as well as private foundations.  Ms. Navarro’s proposals have been selected for funding, including a $1.4 million grant award from the City of San Diego’s Community Block Development Program in 2012.
