The Southern California Law School Consortium (aka “LSCA”) is currently compiling a Patent Bar Eligible Candidate Resume Book (“Patent Law Resume Book”) that will showcase the resumes of regional law students who are eligible to sit for the USPTO Patent Bar Exam.   The Patent Law Resume Book will be disseminated to the regional Intellectual Property law firms in mid-September to coincide with the firm’s anticipated Summer 2013 hiring cycles.  As holders of qualifying undergraduate (or graduate) degrees, you are invited and strongly encouraged to participate by submitting your resume to the LSCA in accordance with the instructions attached hereto.

Although the publication should not take the place of your applying directly to firms for opportunities that may be otherwise available, it is yet another tool that we encourage you to use to reach employers that may be interested in hiring patent attorneys or USPTO Patent Bar Exam eligible law students.  The Patent Law Resume Book is only open to students and alumni who are eligible to sit for the USPTO Patent Bar Exam (or have already been admitted), which will make it a very useful resource for employers who need to quickly identify potential hires for patent law positions.  Please note that you can only bid on sections of the publication for which you qualify (i.e. fields in which they hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD).  Each student/alumnus should review the below list (which is also in the instruction sheet) and identify his or her major/degree.  The student/alumna can only bid on the corresponding section of the Patent Law Resume Book (e.g. Life Sciences, Electrical Engineering).  As a result, the only context in which a student or alum should bid on more than one section of the resume publication is if he or she had a double undergrad major, or has a major in one field and a master’s or PhD in a second field.

It is our understanding that the Patent Law Resume Book will be organized alphabetically in groups by degree and then alphabetically within said degree groups by the candidate’s last name

The deadline by which you must upload your updated resume onto the LSCA Symplicity website is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24th.

Please feel free to contact Matt Lab or any other Career Advisor if you wish to have your resume reviewed.

Additionally, please note that this book will be widely distributed, and although the final list of employers has not yet been determined, it could be passed around among additional employers.  Thus, this may not be a great option for alumni who already have permanent jobs and don’t want their present employers to know they are searching for another job…
